ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships 2013
July 13, 2013
The Swiss triathlon team had a typical Swiss result at the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships in Den Haag, small team - but highly efficient. Renata Bucher (Sursee) took 4th in the pro race. Karin Hansen (Nottwil) added another podium to her carrier and won the silver medal.
My race started already great on the beach and water entry. It was absolutely my taste of swimming - rough water, fast start, body surf finish. Transition 1 on the beach had its difficulties, sand was already in before I got on the bike, but there would be much more to come. The bike course in 4 laps forced all racers to push the bike 26 times. After the first lap I looked back and realized that there was already a considerable gap to the second racer. Through the next 3 laps I was carried by paranoia, I always thought there would be somebody directly behind me. Same on the run though the sand dunes on the 9km run, paranoia all the way giving me wings. Luckily the race was not longer than 9km, the race took everything from me and on the last 500m I was very dizzy, but I knew I would win gold.
I could not believe it to the next morning that I took gold - first thing in the morning I did was checking my bag if the medal was really there... and it was :)
