Xterra Sweden - the northern jewel
July 15, 2014
Hej hej - I already like how they talk up there! The inaugural race in Hellasgården, Stockholm was a pure joy. The race is nestled in the middle of a absolutely stunning park. The organization around Steen set up a perfect race and made this adventure very pleasant. The first race was very small in participant number, but the people that found their way here ramped the level very high up. From the swim start on the speed was very high and Ben Allen, Dan Hugo and Braden Curri could pull away with Rory and two Swedes hanging on. Yeray and I made up the first chase group until to T1. From here I tried to catch the 6 in front of me as fast as I could. By 10km into the bike I passed the two Swedes and caught Rory on the technical-root path. Riding hard on to drop Rory and trying to get rid of my Swedish shadow kept me going. What the race was missing in altitude gain on the bike and run it made up with the countless obstacles. The run called for your full attention, make sure that you can stay on the path, get the next heading and find a line. After the first loop Djurbeck past me again and at 9.5km Yeray came flying by, my legs were done and I had nothing to hold against the pace from Yeray. In the end I am very happy with my 6th place. Congrats to Braden and Helena for their win in Sweden. XTERRA Sweden is defiantly on my agenda for next year!
