XTERRA England - a million turns of fun
August 27, 2014
Stetted in the beautiful area, just south of London, in the Vachery Estate in Cranleigh, Surrey.
This course has it all for a technical ride and run, plus the weather god was on our side. If this course would be wet then it will be turned into a green hell of slow and muddy trails.
In the week after the world championships in Zittau a lot of the top guys were still in Europe and some made it to England. I had the privilege to start with the number 6, which is my position in the European Cup.
The swim went well and I could make it out of the water in close range to Conrad Stoltz, Ben Allen, Roger Serrano and Rory Downie. Yeray Luxem was next to me and we started together on the bike to chase the guys ahead of us down. At 8km on the bike we rode a very hard pace through the 1000 corners in the woods and closed the gap on Ben and Roger. Way ahead of us was Conrad, showing us all how to ride a technical bike course, no chance for us to catch him. Arriving a T2 we were all close together, in addition Francois Carloni and Kris Coddens closed the gap and position 2 through 7 was uncertain for all. Kris was the fastest runner of the day, just passing all of us and taking second behind Conrad.
I had ok legs until 8km and bad cramps stopped me to inch up on Francois, it went even the other way and Matt Dewis caught me downing me on 8th position. Still happy about a good race and gained some confidence that I can ride up to the top guys in the world, I now need to strengthen my running legs.
Next up is Xterra Denmark next weekend, looking forward to play in the North-sea and chase Conrad again.
