ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships 2015
September 30, 2015
Orosei, Sardegna, Italy - The 2015 ITU World Champs for the Elite took place last Saturday. For me it was race
number 26 this season. I felt healthy and strong going into the race day. The sea was calm and with this not ideal for me, if ocean, I like it with big waves and strong currents. The start went well and I had two great neighbours with Arthure Foriessier and Sam Osborne on the start line.
Both swimming very strait and no contact to the first buoy. The level was extremely high and I was a little shocked, when I realised that I was not in the top 10 out of the water, but with all the big names around me only in the top 20. Transition went well and I could install myself in a very fast bike group with Ruben Ruzafa, Conrad Stolz and 8 or 10 others. Ruben went, as expected, super hard and pulled away. Conrad had no luck with his rear tired and we kept catching him twice. The first bike loop went good for me and I managed to ride all the way up to Yeray Luxum.

In the second loop Arthure Forissier cam blowing by and I tried to stay with him as long as I could. At the wall (hike a bike) I had just for a few seconds no power and the group pulled away. Leaving Arthure Serrier and me behind.

The two of us stayed for the rest of the bike loop together, only Kris Coddens catching and leading us into transition. Again a good transition, but my first 2km on the run I felt tired and so I started with my own pace, not being able to stay with Kris or Arthure. In the second lap on the run I started to regain my energy. I could continuously pick up speed and catch other racers. In the final lap I was up again with Arthure and catching Pavel Andreev, but going into the finish sprint I had nothing left to race both of them. I took 18th place in the Elite race, somewhat disappointed that I could not show my best, but it is still a top 20 rank at a world championship.
A big thank you too all my supporters at the race and sponsors helping me to get this fare. Now the training starts for Maui and I can’t wait to show there what I am capable of. Congrats to Ruben Ruzafa, Roger Serrano and Sam Osborne for the podium!
