Bern Triathlon - nice when the bikes legs spin
June 8, 2016
This is a really nice race, the atmosphere at the race and the views to the alps make it! After not being able to race it in 2015, I returned to Bern to compete in this sprint road triathlon. The organisation makes a great job with the basics they have. A 50m pool, a parking lot. 11km of road and 2.5km of farmer trail and you have a race course. For some reason this race always gets good weather and with this the people are very happy. The outdoor pools in Switzerland have just opened and with this the water is still on the chilly side. As the last time the water was just 24C, according to the rules it is a non wetsuit swim. Well swimming 500m in the race would be overkill to swim with a wetsuit. The bike course changed and the new loop went to a new area and included a very nice uphill with 120m of climbing. Also the downhill and flat section were a lot fun and allowed speeds up to 70km/h. The run was also slightly changed and a very nice addition in the back end with a small 30m hill climb was aded. Both cycling and running are made up of 2 loops and the races ads up as a sprint distance.
For me the swim was quick and I only lost a few seconds on Sven Anderlind, who I though would swim the fastest time of the day as he did. On the bike I had very good legs and I made my move on the uphills. On the run I was feeling ok, but not 100% ready for a flat and fast run. So I powered through and was very happy to take the win.
I can only recommend this race if you are looking for a nice spring race with sunshine.
Thank you to the organisation, volunteers and sponsors making this happen - I will race again.
