Cross Triathlon Swiss Champs 2016 - not my day
June 13, 2016
Back to Tramelan in the Jura and to a race that is not my favourite course. The majority of the race track is on large forest roads or paved surface and with this it is a very easy and fast race. The weather was stormy and the few forest sections very muddy resulting in the special warrior paint we all got.
The swim of 1000m took place in the local pool and 4 people per lane. This was an a big improvement compared to 2015, where athletes were send of every 10sec to race individually. Now it was easy for the athletes to know where they are standing in the race and more attractive for the spectators to know what is going on. Leandro Glardon was leading out of the water with about 40m advance and decided to put on some extra clothing in T1. This extra time gave me the chance to catch him right there again and together we went on the bike course of 3 laps.
Very soon in the 1st lap I could feel my back and neck, still sore from the crash in training a few days earlier. Up to this point I thought the remaining strength would be enough to bring this home. IN Lap 2 Andy Kläy came flaying by, doing very well and on the downhill and having a lot more strength on the uphill then me today. I had to let him go and was hopping the gap would be not too big in T2 to run him down.
Once on the run I had to accept that my back was not happy with me at all and today there will be no extra power to run hard and fast. So instead of catching Andy I had to let pass another racer and just hang on to it.
I congratulate Andy to his first Swiss Champion title and looking forward racing him again at the Biennathlon next week.
A big thank you goes out to the organisation, volunteers and very generous sponsors of Triathlon Tramelan.
